WHY? Hand Of God Rock For Sale

April 27, 2009 3:56 PM Filed Under: WHY

Seriously, a gentleman in Idaho is selling what he says is a "hand of God' rock on eBay. The rock appeared to said gentleman after a rockfall in his backyard during Lent. Hurry, there are a few days left. Only one problem--how do you get a 9 foot hand of God into a NYC apartment?

Summer Camp In June

My children's school gets out so early--any ideas for camp in June for a week or two? I have two boys, ages 7 and 9. Thanks.

Sure thing--try Mohr's Explorers (fun outdoor program), Pier 40 Baseball Camp, Columbia Lions (sports camp up at Columbia), or skateboarding camp at Friends Seminary. All fun and different options in the city.

Brunch Recommendations

Having some friends over for lunch on Sunday and want to serve something other than the usual bagels and lox. I'm stumped.

What about picking up lobster rolls at Mary's Fish Camp? The lines at lunchtime are famous but we learned that you can call ahead and pick up the legendary lobster sandwiches. And please, don't forget the matchstick fries that come on the side. Serve with very cold white wine...yummy!

Baby, It's HOT Outside

What are you supposed to wear when the weather's like this? Seems too early for sundresses, we both need pedicures, and shorts are just plain bad (unless you're under 30 or are a camp counselor). Lightweight jeans and a sleeveless shirt? Found some great shirts at Madewell in Soho (J. Crew's younger sibing) after determining that the much-hyped Topshop next door was a bit too--how shall we put this--"young" for us.

Training Bras

Where is a good place to buy "training bras" in NYC? Don't want to spend too much on them! Thanks.

Try Gap Body. The XS size sports bras are super-comfortable and nice and stretchy. Lester's also had a pretty good selection last time we were there (and no old ladies taking embarrassing measurements!). Someone recommended My First Bra, but the tag line of "a helpful guide" kind of freaked us out...but to each her own!

WHY? Weird Passover Stuff

Not sure when Passover went from a celebration of freedom to a celebration of ten plagues toys but it seems they're everywhere! Who has dibs on the lice mask?

Here's the fifth question: how much caramel matzo crunch can Alyssa eat before she explodes? Let's just say she had to make a second batch to bring to her sister's house because the first one "got lost" on the way to the freezer. An added suggestion: sprinkle crushed almonds on top of the chocolate while it sets. This stuff is SICK, in a good way of course.

tip o’ the week: Super Easy Mac 'n Cheese

April 27, 2009 4:46 AM Filed Under: RECIPES TIP O' THE WEEK

Last year Hilary bought Alyssa's daughter a cookbook and Annabelle has spent the better part of the year perfecting the cookbook's macaroni and cheese recipe. Here's her version--the first one the children like that doesn't come out of a box and doesn't involve some sort of flourescent orange substance. The topping is our own special addition...but be forewarned: you won't be able to stop at one bite! [see more]
