Any recommendations for renting a house in Fire Island? Thinking about a week or two and don't know where to start.

If you're looking for a short-term rental, try vacationrentals.com. The majority of the brokers do longer-term rentals and at Vacation Rentals you'll be going directly to the owners. Alyssa found a great house on there a few years ago and a whole bunch of other people she knows have also had good luck with this site.

I'm looking for summer programs for 8th-9th grade girls in NYC. Could be art, academic, sports--even for just a few hours a day. Any ideas?

There are tons of programs to choose from. Most of those listed below are a week at a time so you could cobble together an entire summer's worth of activities. A few of these don't have their summer programs up on their sites yet so they might require a few calls.
