Are You Chanukah or Are You Christmas?
It sounds like a pick-up line at a preschool cocktail lounge but we've all heard our children asking each other this very question. This brand-new picture book by Felicia Miller-Stehr nails it--following a young girl around NYC as she quizzes everyone she encounters about their holiday traditions. Cute! … [see more]

If you're still scrounging for Thanksgiving recipes, scrounge no further. Smitten Kitchen posted some mouth-watering recipes for side dishes and desserts ('cause who needs a recipe for turkey?). Neither of us is cooking this year--but Alyssa might just make those pan-roasted brussels sprouts for her own dinner tonight and Hilary's in the kitchen right now whipping up the butternut squash and caramelized onion galette for lunch. … [see more]

What are you doing for Thanksgiving? If you're not cooking and have some time to spare, why not take advantage of one of the many volunteer opportunities available on Thanksgiving. Some of the opportunities listed below take place during Thanksgiving week, so even if you are cooking or heading out of town, there's still work to be done. We here at momcierge feel so grateful that we have more mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie than we know what to do with and we feel grateful that we are able to give back. … [see more]
We're trying to stick to last year's resolution and not do our holiday cards at the last minute. We should preface that intention with a little background. Although Alyssa has been able to have her cards postmarked every year by December 31st, Hilary has completely abandoned the idea of sending out cards that even resemble a New Year's greeting. Fortunately, for Hilary, one day in a scramble to get what had become her "President's Day" cards out on time, she realized her last name was Valentine and now can procrastinate sending out her greetings all the way 'til mid-February without guilt. So, in good faith, we're both thinking about holiday cards. Okay, we're thinking about them. We didn't say we'd actually done anything about them. But at least the idea has made it to the top of the list. We'll be so proud if we'll can check that box before we finish eating the Halloween candy which, at the rate we're going, might be Thursday. … [see more]
Last year Hilary bought Alyssa's daughter a cookbook and Annabelle has spent the better part of the year perfecting the cookbook's macaroni and cheese recipe. Here's her version--the first one the children like that doesn't come out of a box and doesn't involve some sort of flourescent orange substance. The topping is our own special addition...but be forewarned: you won't be able to stop at one bite! … [see more]
