I have a gold antique pin that I want to have made into a necklace. Where do I go?
Lots of jewelry repair/remodel questions lately! Maybe everyone is renewing and recycling instead of buying new? We stand by our previous recommendations...Susan Kotterman or Murrey's Jewelers! They are both great. Susan has repaired Hilary's antique ring and Murrey reworked Alyssa's mom's diamond ring into a necklace.
Where can I buy a sweet baby bracelet?
We love the sweet baby bracelets from Love Ivy. We even measured our wrists to see if any of the gold bangles would fit us. Not like a pair of jeans though...can't squeeze into a too-tight bracelet.
I have a couple of pairs of broken pearl earrings. The pearls need to be properly glued back on the posts. Where should I take them?
We just posted about jewelry repair last week by Susan Kotterman, 212-486-6576. An update: Alyssa thought her fix-it guy was gone but alas he's right where she left him. Murrey's Jewelers, 1395 Third Ave. between 79th and 80th, 212.879.3690.
Help! The jewelery where I used to take all my stuff for repair has closed. Can you recommend someone to fix a bunch of broken stuff and replace some small stones?
Alyssa's favorite place closed, too so she's glad your wrote in. Hilary suggests calling Susan Kotterman at 212-486-6576. She's located right above the American Girl store in midtown. You need to make an appointment--she's a private jeweler who not only does high-quality repairs, she also does custom design and redesign of your old pieces.
Any ideas for jewelry shopping downtown?
Believe it or not ABC Carpet and Home has a gorgeous selection of "indie" designers, stuff you won't see everywhere. Heading further down to SoHo and Nolita there are a ton of small jewelry shops. Our favorites: Hey.....Joe, Steve....anybody listening?--H and A
Where can I get horse-related charms for my horse-obsessed granddaughter?
You should be able to fill up a charm bracelet in no time at all at Precious Accents. They all come in sterling and gold. Giddy-up.
My daughter is getting her ears pierced and I'd like to buy some screw-back earrings. They're hard to find! Do you know any place that sells them. Thanks.
Good timing! Alyssa's daughter is getting her ears pierced and she was also looking for them. She found a great selection at Love Ivy. The best thing about them is that they have a special rounded back that covers the earring post--no chance of poking in the head!
Last year Hilary bought Alyssa's daughter a cookbook and Annabelle has spent the better part of the year perfecting the cookbook's macaroni and cheese recipe. Here's her version--the first one the children like that doesn't come out of a box and doesn't involve some sort of flourescent orange substance. The topping is our own special addition...but be forewarned: you won't be able to stop at one bite! … [see more]
