Pot Luck Rut

September 12, 2008 11:02 AM Filed Under: FOOD  SCHOOL  Q & A

It's school pot luck time. I can't bear the thought of cutting up crudite and I missed the cutoff for Fresh Direct. Other than Ruffles and onion dip, what can I bring?

Order a "big salad" from Chop't. One of their small salads will serve the entire parent body and we promise there won't be as much as a chick pea left over. It can be a bit pricey, but at least you know they'll be something good to eat! We also love to cook up a big pot o' chili and bring the toppings: shredded cheddar, oyster crackers, chopped onions, and tortilla chips!

Clammed Up

I'm making a paella for guests at my house, do i cook the clams with the opening part in the rice or with the muscle part in the rice?

It shouldn't really matter unless your paella pan is really really too full. If that's the case, stick the muscle part down in the liquid and it should open faster. YUM!

A coule years ago, a taxi driver told me the best falafel was from some street cart uptown. How do I find it?

When we decide we're gonna "go for it," falafel is our drug of choice. The BEST!!!!! is Moishe's. He has 2 carts now. 45th St. at 6th Ave. and 17th St. at 5th Ave. When in doubt check eatstreetmeat.com, our go-to-site for eating on the run!

Where can I get an organic birthday cake?

Babycakes uses no refined sugars, is gluten-free, soy-free and vegan to boot! And best of all no cardboard taste! They deliver in NYC and ship outside the city too.

tip o’ the week: Super Easy Mac 'n Cheese

April 27, 2009 4:46 AM Filed Under: RECIPES TIP O' THE WEEK

Last year Hilary bought Alyssa's daughter a cookbook and Annabelle has spent the better part of the year perfecting the cookbook's macaroni and cheese recipe. Here's her version--the first one the children like that doesn't come out of a box and doesn't involve some sort of flourescent orange substance. The topping is our own special addition...but be forewarned: you won't be able to stop at one bite! [see more]
