My sister (who lives upstate) just adopted/rescued a dog. What would be a tremendously cool, "can only get it in NYC" doggy gift? Only one request: No doggy clothes please!

For the ultimate gift, how about a "Furcedes" Pet Bed? But we're guessing that's not what you had in mind. Trixie + Peanut on 20th Street has a fabulous collection of collars, leashes, dishes, and a really unusual personalized dog tags that we haven't seen anyplace else. You might also want to consider a special ornament for Fluffy's First Christmas!

We're going away at Thanksgiving for a week and need to board our dog. Do you have any experience with kennels in the area?

Alyssa's beast, Lila, vacations at Almost Home Kennels in Putnam Valley (north of NYC). They're fabulous with young, old, and special needs dogs. Book early--they do fill up at holiday weeks, especially if you would like pick up and delivery service to the city.

Last year Hilary bought Alyssa's daughter a cookbook and Annabelle has spent the better part of the year perfecting the cookbook's macaroni and cheese recipe.
