Tennis Camp

Looking for a great sleep away tennis camp for my daughter.  One or two week program.  Know of any where you or a friend has had personal experience?  Thanks

A friend whose son is really into tennis recommends New England Tennis Camp. It's a two-week program held at the Trinity-Pawling Prep School, which is about 70 miles outside of the city. We'd also suggest checking with our friend Renee Flax at the American Camping Association. She knows all the camps in the Northeast really well and after a brief conversation, she can really give you some great feedback and ideas.

Business Camp

Do you know of any summer programs for teens that are like "money camps" or do something business oriented?

We just heard about a Teen Entrepeneur Boot Camp that's run out of the South Street Seaport. It runs for two weeks and during that time, teens actuall launch and run a small business. They also have programs during some school vacations.

Do you know of any summer programs or art camps in NYC? My daughter is 12.

Parsons has a wide-range of short summer programs for tweens and up: architecture, drawing, photography, and fashion design. FIT also has a summer program for middle schooler. But sign up early, we hear that they fill up fast!

Sports Day Camp

Any suggestions for a great day camp for tweens (NYC area). A sports camp or all-around with sports other than the usual Ramapo, Ramaquois, Hillard.

Ramapo and Hillard only go through age 13 so those are out...but we know a few kids who started at Ramaquois as tweens and go back year after year. It was a sleepaway camp and the facilities are expansive and gorgeous. For something totally sporty, Future Stars runs a ton of sport-specific camps at SUNY Purchase as well as an all-around sports program. We also like that they have a Girls Sports Academy!

tip o’ the week: Super Easy Mac 'n Cheese

April 27, 2009 4:46 AM Filed Under: RECIPES TIP O' THE WEEK

Last year Hilary bought Alyssa's daughter a cookbook and Annabelle has spent the better part of the year perfecting the cookbook's macaroni and cheese recipe. Here's her version--the first one the children like that doesn't come out of a box and doesn't involve some sort of flourescent orange substance. The topping is our own special addition...but be forewarned: you won't be able to stop at one bite! [see more]
